Millie Barlow exhibits at Ted Kitchens and Bedrooms
Event Details
Millie Barlow is a digital and lino-cut print maker based in Harrogate. Her work of local Yorkshire scenes combine bright, bold colours and a retrospective style inspired by heritage railway art from the 1920s-50s. Originally from the Peak District, Millie grew up along the Monsal Trail, a popular cycle path from Bakewell to Buxton. The path follows the route of the LNER railway that closed in the 1960s but the artwork and architecture remain and their evocative presence is felt through Millie’s pieces.
Each illustration is created by a careful line study of an popular Yorkshire destination which is then digitally enhanced to play with colour and tones to match the aesthetic of the area. From burnt ochres bringing out the gritstone pillar of Brimham Rocks to deep purple fields representing the wild heather of the Yorkshire moorland, each piece captures the memory of the place. Millie’s work is available online as limited edition prints with individual commissions also taken.
