Art at the Hub
Event Details
Mel Lisney promotes “slow looking” and mindfulness for emotional wellbeing. Her unique work incorporates annealed metal leaf and mica to create intriguing light-reactive effects in her dramatic abstract images. Inspired by Art Nouveau and Art Deco, Mel combines naturalistic lines and themes with geometric structures. Artist Website Instagram Facebook David Ferguson is a ceramicist working with stoneware clay, creating flowing organic sculptures and domestic ware inspired by coastal seascapes and the bird life that inhabits this area. He creates flowing organic sculptures from clay, influenced by birds and the ebb and flow of tidal water. They have a tactile, sensual quality that draws heavily from powerful childhood memories, and the feelings and sensations associated with a specific time and place. “Birds, mud flats, bulrushes and the sea are always with me,” says David. “It’s only recently that I have realised how much they influence my work.” Artist Website Instagram Facebook Email Amanda Toase, a textile and ceramic artist, presents new work inspired by the natural world, landscapes and botanicals, expressed through richly textured textiles and carefully crafted ceramics. Amanda is a Harrogate-based artist trading as The Quirky Crown, creating richly layered, evocative work. She is delighted to return to St John’s Hub for another year of the FEVA Festival. Amanda’s practice spans textiles and ceramics, united by a love of detail, texture and expressive colour. This year, she presents new botanical pieces inspired by the cyanotype process, reimagined with painterly colour and enhanced through intricate stitching. Landscapes are explored through both felt and ceramic. Felt marks a welcome return to a medium she is reconnecting with after many years, while ceramics, developed since completing her MA in Creative Practice, offer a newer direction. These ceramic works feature semi-abstract interpretations of landscape, capturing atmosphere and place. Colour plays a central role throughout Amanda’s work, used intuitively to evoke memory, mood and emotional connection, inviting viewers to reflect on their own relationship with the natural world. Instagram Facebook Artist Email B Smith loves to create an eclectic mix of wearable art jewellery, drawing on her long history in fashion and costume design for new ideas. B makes handcrafted jewellery from polymer clay and repurposed glass beads. She blends unusual colour combinations to make unique wearable art, often inspired by traditions, folklore and nature from around the world. She makes items for people who like to be a little different, with a price range to suit every pocket. Instagram Facebook Chris Woodard Chris Woodard is a self-taught artist who took up painting landscapes in retirement. She works in acrylic and pastel, enjoys colour and aims to capture the atmosphere of landscapes. Chris Woodard has always had a great love of art. She studied art history and worked as a primary school teacher, promoting art as a central tool of learning with young children. However, she did not paint herself until she retired and is self-taught. She works in acrylic and pastel, and her work seeks to capture the subtle moods of nature through careful observation of colour, tone and texture. Inspired by local scenery, travels and literature, she hopes to bring landscape to life through expressive detail. Her style is evolving and she gains constant pleasure and excitement from developing her work. |
