Healing and Joy In Pottery

Event Details

Makiko Hastings makes wheel-thrown stoneware tableware at her garden studio in Knaresborough, a small Yorkshire town in UK. Her love for tableware is strongly influenced by the food culture from her Japanese background in a way that each pieces enrich and harmonise together. Its simple yet versatile profiles of her tableware collection “mazekoze”are comforting to the users hands enabling them to be used in a daily life and bring joy to your home.

Maki also loves exploring within the surface decoration using a unique slip resist technique. Her “rakugaki” and “mini words of life” collections are expressing human feelings through simple text messages. As each of us go through highs and lows in our life, much from her own healing journey from childhood trauma which she overcame, Maki hopes these healing message in creation will give people a small way to remind us to be gentle, be present and celebrate each steps of our life.

Maki offers various lessons and a day retreat for people who are keen to ‘experience’ her healing and joy of pottery at her studio setting. More info can be found and contacted at her website www.makikohastings.com

Maki will be having a guest artist from Japan, Ikuko Horie, and doing some live painting and collaboration on the first week. For more details, please contact Maki at [email protected]
