Event Details

Known locally for her landscape paintings, Shirley Hudson also creates evocative portraits—some of which are displayed in this micro-exhibition at 10 Kirkgate. Installed in the window and viewable throughout the festival, Portrait Window links directly with the Henshaws summer showcase Faces, Places and Pots.

The portraits on display originate from several of Shirley’s community art projects, including A Place at the Table (St Peter’s Church breakfast club), the Nidd Jubilee portraits, a fishing trip series for the Cancer and Pisces Trust, and drawings of people at Henshaws, where Shirley has worked as a workshop leader for 27 years.

Shirley Hudson is a landscape and portrait artist who trained in sculpture at Cheltenham Art College and in printmaking at Bradford. She has taught in Adult Education, facilitated community art workshops, and was resident artist at the Hardcastle Crags Sculpture Trail. Since 1998, she has led workshops at Henshaws, specialising in sculpture, painting, and mosaics. Her landscape work, especially of North Yorkshire, is often exhibited in the window at 10 Kirkgate, Knaresborough.
